UBL and PINT-OM formats explained

UBL is a widely used XML vocabulary for business documents; PINT-OM describes the technical profile for Oman invoicing. Understanding both explains what a readiness assessment actually checks.

What is UBL?

UBL (Universal Business Language) is an open standard for XML business documents such as invoices. It provides a common, structured vocabulary so different systems can exchange invoice data reliably.

What is PINT-OM?

PINT-OM is the technical profile for structured invoice interchange in Oman, built on the same structured XML approach as UBL. This site's rule engine evaluates invoices against the versioned, source-attributed rule set it ships, which references such technical profiles.

What a structured invoice contains

Whether created from UBL-style XML or mapped from a spreadsheet, a structured invoice carries fields such as:

• A unique invoice number
• An issue date and related dates where applicable
• Supplier and buyer identifiers, names and addresses
• Tax identification and tax totals
• Line items with identifiers, quantities, prices and units
• Totals that reconcile across lines and tax
• A clear currency with exchange-rate handling where required

Why it matters

Machine-readable, well-formed data is what makes billing interoperable. Before relying on a format or a vendor claim, run a deterministic assessment on a real invoice so you can see the evidence yourself.
